I believe it is time for American colonization of Haiti! This is one of the boldest statements I have ever made in my life. I know I will ruffle a few feathers but I don’t care, I am tired of sending food and medical supplies and seeing those who need it suffer. I know Haitian history all to well: The little island of Haiti was the first of all blacks to gain their independence from slavery. The slaves mounted an attack armed with nothing but machetes and rocks and defeated Napoleon Bonaparte’s army. This happened in 1791-1803 Slavery uprisings resulted in an abolition of slavery and an eventual defeat against European forces. During 1804 Haiti is declared independent from France, making it the first Black republic in the western hemisphere. Little know fact that the former slaves of Haiti then went into Jamaica and the United States spreading their word of Freedom. 1915-34 United States occupied Haiti. I say it’s time for them to come back. I may not like the capitalist system but I believe it keep violence under control to a point. Main complaints about Haiti are not enough jobs, not enough food, and being left behind technologically. From living in America all these years I notice people really do no have the time nor do they want to be behind in their bills so they don’t stage such violent protest. In my opinion If Haiti had a competent government they would of focus on building the confidence of the people. If I were in a position to give advice I would first build factories and entice all those who farm to sell their crops to the government for processing and distribution. Second promote good foreign relations thus bringing tourism. Third use these as a building block to offer even the lease educated man a job that will train him/her to be an asset to society. Fourth build a citizen rights form of health care, and work/welfare. This might be my American upbringing but I would establish a social security system in order for everyone who is born in Haiti to be known by the government and maintain a census of all. This is mainly to ensure we can find those who are kidnapped and properly fund our education system. Farming our natural resources would be a beginning. My campaign would promote Educating those who want to be doctors, lawyers, architects, engineers, pilots, media personnel, athletes, and other professions to the best of their capability in order to establish a great future for generations to come. Establish Trust between the people and their government. Taking the words elected by the people for the people and put it into practice. Let the people know they have a voice, by instilling pride in the heritage and culture of Haiti. I am very angry at Columbian drug lords who introduced cocaine the public. I can honestly say that the country was 100% drug free before the second Aristide term of presidency. Therefore the most important thing that needs to be done is building a legitimate police department and military. A lot of Columbians Panamanians and other Latin American countries have some military occupying Haiti funneling drugs to the USA. This is where American intervention comes into play. By the USA and I signing a treaty in order to fight the drug war we offer land of our choosing to occupy for United States affairs. In turn they would provide a military strike to end drugs and gang violence in our most dangerous places. Then we will allow the building to begin my campaign slogan would be New hope New Future!
A desperate appeal from the president Wednesday failed to restore order to Haiti's shattered capital, and bands of looters sacked stores, warehouses and government offices.
Gunfire rang out from the wealthy suburbs in the hills to the starving slums below as 9,000 U.N. peacekeepers were unable to halt a frenzy of looting and violence that has grown out of protests over rising food prices.
Thousands of people were in the streets of Port-au-Prince following President Rene Preval's speech, many looting stores and terrorizing drivers and shopkeepers with rocks. Thousands more took part other in protests across the country.
An uneasy calm settled in by late Wednesday, with stores remaining closed but protesters mostly dispersed and many roadblocks abandoned.
Many of the protesters are demanding the resignation of the U.S.-backed president, and on Tuesday U.N. peacekeepers had to fire rubber bullets and tear gas to drive away a mob that tried to storm his palace.
Preval delivered his first public comments Wednesday, nearly a week into the protests. With his job on the line, Haiti's president promised to press importers to lower food prices and appealed to the rioters to go home.
"The solution is not to go around destroying stores," he said. "I'm giving you orders to stop."
But gunfire rang out around the palace after the speech, as peacekeepers tried to drive away people looting surrounding stores.
The streets of Port-au-Prince — an impoverished capital of more than 2 million — remained in the control of bands of young men carrying sticks and rocks, who set up roadblocks of burning tires and stopped passing cars. Businesses were closed and most people locked themselves indoors, as mobs looted stores, warehouses and government offices.
Black smoke billowed over the city as protesters set tires ablaze. Sustained gunfire was heard throughout Petionville, where many diplomats and foreigners live, and in Martissant, a lawless slum west of downtown. On the road to the airport, groups of protesters surrounded makeshift barricades and threw rocks at passing cars.
Looters could be seen sacking a supermarket and several gas-station mini-marts. Radio stations reported looters also sacked a government rice warehouse outside Port-au-Prince and the office of Petionville's mayor.
Protests were reported Wednesday throughout Haiti. In the northern city of Cap-Haitien, bandits tried to steal food from the warehouse of the U.N. World Food Program, peacekeepers' spokeswoman Sophie Boutaud de la Combe said. Protesters also burned tires in Ouanaminthe, on the border with the Dominican Republic, and hundreds marched peacefully in the western port of St. Marc.
The U.S. Coast Guard has been watching Haiti for signs of a migrant exodus, but routine patrols have not intercepted any migrant vessels since the unrest began in the Caribbean nation, said Petty Officer Jennifer Johnson, a spokeswoman in Miami. In 1994, the U.S. sent 20,000 troops to Haiti in part to halt an influx of tens of thousands of boat people.
"The Coast Guard is continuing to monitor the situation in Haiti very closely," Johnson said.
Haiti is particularly affected by food prices, which have risen 40 percent on average globally since mid-2007. With 80 percent of its population struggling to survive on less than US$2 (euro1.27) a day, the rising prices pose a real threat to its fragile democracy.
Preval acknowledged the threat in his address, saying Haiti's predicament comes partly from its dependence on imported rice that has weakened national production. He pledged to provide Haitian farmers with more government loans.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon pledged Wednesday that his organization "will continue to support the Haitian authorities to bring emergency relief assistance to the Haitian people and to maintain public order," spokeswoman Marie Okabe said. He also called on donors to provide emergency aid.
U.N. police spokesman Fred Blaise said several people have been injured by bullets and rocks in the capital, including a Haitian police officer. Five people have been killed in the southern city of Les Cayes, where protesters tried to burn down the U.N. compound last week.
Many protesters want the United Nations to pull its peacekeepers from Haiti because of resentment over foreign presence. Even poor Haitians who praise U.N. victories over gangs have criticized the mission for not providing jobs or doing development work — objectives that are not part of the peacekeepers' mandate.
Anger has also been directed at the United States, which sent troops to Haiti in 2004 during the rebellion that ousted President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Many of Aristide's followers believe their leader was kidnapped by foreign powers. On Tuesday, protesters threw rocks at the Canadian Embassy and at U.S. Embassy buildings.
The U.S. Embassy suspended operations Wednesday and advised Americans in Port-au-Prince and Les Cayes to remain indoors. Tim Aston, a U.S. Agency for International Development contractor in Port-au-Prince, said he and colleagues hadn't left their hotel in two days.
"You can hear gunfire and stuff like that," he said. "The helicopter is flying around and you see black smoke from the window."
Haiti's tourism industry all but ground to a halt more than a decade ago amid political violence. Cruise ships still dock in the heavily guarded peninsula of Labadee in northern Haiti, and operations were unaffected Wednesday, according to Royal Caribbean official John Weis.
Preval's speech had been widely anticipated, and his response to the violence could determine the future of his government.
Sen. Joseph Lambert, a member of Preval's party, said nobody should expect the president to "solve everything with a magic wand," adding that the protesters should listen to Preval's appeal for calm.
"If not," he said, "if there is an attempt at a coup d'etat to remove the president, things will get worse."
Well my friend I find out some conclusive proof that my first notion for the company to suspended me to be true. It all began when the company were making changes because of the tenured rep of the company got the attention of CWA union. The reps really did not know what was going on and how much a union workforce benefit them. Major schedule changes happened forcing the employees to choose between school and work. All the reps ages 19-21 were all in a situation that they did not know what to do or how to handle the change. A big sense of tension engulfed the whole store, my mistake was trying to use jokes as the remedy for what was ailing the employees. I tend to forget that at that age fresh out of High school I really did not know how to handle big corporate changes. Most of the reps became very rigid and deceitful due to this tension. One young lady cried because she thought the company was out to get her. Another young lady had major problems with her boyfriend due to her stress at work spilling over into her relationship with him. The third young lady well she is complex she once said that everybody hates me for what reason I don’t know. I just shrugged it off and moved on not knowing that was the beginning of a plot against me. I remember one day a group of reps getting together and setting up a click per say of the employees against the managers. Imagine this you are at work on a sales atmosphere quota’s are being raised and three managers are watching over you to see if you are performing to the best of your capabilities. Even when customer is pissed off and ready to rip your head off, you are expected to sell them something. The motto is “no customer walks”. Now you have a lot of anger in need of release and low and behold some guy you work with is texting you quotes from a TV show when you are not in the mood. He works in the backroom and doesn’t have to deal with such pressure like the sales reps do. It was like their whole life was upside down and this was just the straw that broke the camels back. Now the crew that came together in order to find strength in numbers against the management started to focus on me. I was approached by their leader to ask me to fall in line join them or I am against them. I let it be know I stand alone but I can give you advice on how to handle the situation. That was not the answer they were looking for. One of the young ladies really felt I should have taken the offer and she had a plan to extract revenge on me because of a discount report that details all her transactions. Another young lady really wanted to get me back because the day she cried I felt so bad I had a sit down with one of the managers and asked to help her out. Little did I know the manager I talked to was the one she despised the most. Needles to say she was so angry at me because that manager came and talk to her trying to toughen her up if she is to survive in corporate America. The third young lady well she is more complex she acted like she was my friend but when she found out my views on gays and abortions did not agree with hers I became an enemy. Now all ladies have motive, they got together and devised a plan the accusation of sexual harassment. The company will believe them over because I have been a target for dismissal for over a year now. In the years I have been working for AT&T/.Cingular I have achieved awards for performance and accomplishments but I voiced my opinions backed up with facts which planted seed of doubt in the minds of the employees. Managers all considered that a dangerous factor for them in the sense of having control of the employees. I am charismatic, caring, and very head strong when it comes to justice being done. Now they company has the smoking gun, three ladies complaining of wrong doing by me. They text me and I text back as if in a normal everyday conversation not knowing the set up is in play. I am thinking I got through to them when I joked around with them so I carelessly text in all good fun. They did what they did filed a complaint the company took action and I was painted guilty for something I did not do. I never harassed anyone all I did was answer questions ask by the ladies. We were watching a TV show called gossip girls during company time and something was said and they asked what was said. I couldn’t say it out loud so I text it innocently no intentions behind it. Well you know the story I never really had a chance to explain myself I was suspended the fired. I did the one thing they did not want I opened my mouth and blog. I told my story the company retaliated by putting me on a termination of misconduct dismissal so I cannot collect unemployment. All I can say is I have faced hard time then this and over came this is child’s play. In order to survive and make money I went back to being a D J for house parties, clubs and barmitzpha. (200 a night for clubs 100 for private parties 80 for barmitzphas) This scenario sound like a great movie or soap opera but it Is my life. I came to this realization months ago while talking via e-mail with one of the ladies who conspired against me. I sent an email stating that I was very angry and I know who lied on me and I will confront this person. The next day I get a letter from the company and a call from the police stating that I am banned from all AT&T premises. I wonder if that ban applies to the whole United States. Being the knuckle head that I am, I showed up at the store after the warning just to show that I am not afraid of the police. I was inside the store no one greeted me and everyone’s head was down berried in their computer only one person saw me. I showed up to show that I am not a threat also, when I saw no one was going to acknowledge my presence I left because they did ignore me because of fear. Not fear of me but Fear of loosing their jobs, since we are in a recession I wouldn’t want them to loose their jobs either. I was told they were threatened by the company not to reply to my e-mails and not to get in contact with me at all or disciplinary action will be taken. Oh well I did all I can do to help and my help wasn’t wanted I became a hated person for being me. Never once did I let the managers know all the things that accrued in the backroom between the reps. I never will those secrets stay with me forever I am not a snitch and never will be. To my friend Illumination Guy who is fighting a good fight you are getting through to the people but the powers that be know how to push certain buttons in order to control the people. This is one reason why I feel as if the thoughts of 2012 and my thoughts of the days of tribulation come together. Certain powers are controlling the public and the days of rallying the people are so difficult looks like the end is near. We can only try to get people to come together but when factors such as money come into play they are all slaves. When Harriet Tubman went to plantation and plantation to free the slave some did say you know what I’ll pass and wait and see this slavery thing out. Others denounced the escape plans to their masters. You are experiencing it and so am I. Stay strong and continue the good fight. All this was going to happen Me meeting the illumination guy and joining blogsteam this was mapped out by the great architect. Better days are ahead !
I really wanted him for President I miss this guy. I just didn't like his views on a lot of things such as gay marriages, stem cell, and educational funding. but he was a good leader and anti war profiteering. Oh well here is top you Howard Dean haaaaaaaa!
It is sad that he lost an Election just for making a weired scream of excitment. The voting public is funny that way a man with ambitions of domination is our President.
